The Dead don’t Rise

One of the hardest parts of my job is working with hair that is so dry, brittle and damaged, that I have to tell the customers that it is going to be impossible to get the color that they want without their hair breaking and/or falling out, or coming for multiple appointments over several weeks.

Ladies, I'm sure you will all agree that our hair is one of our most important features. It's what our friends notice first when they meet us, and what we want our husbands to notice but have to mention it to them to get notice. And keeping it healthy can be very difficult with our modern lives, even though it doesn't have to be.

Our hair drys out through over coloring, pollution, using the wrong products, over washing, heat and many other factors. Making sure we use the correct products and having a good hair routine is important. You don't need to wash your hair twice a day, but at least 2 to 3 times a week. Using the correct shampoo and conditioner, as well as a mask helps alot. See my post "Plant's need more than just water and so does your hair" for a more in depth read.

I wash and blow dry my hair 3 times a week. "But Francis, that's not enough."

Actually it is. If you blow dry your hair every day, the heat will dry it out, and t

hen as you go about your day, the sun and pollution also dry it out, meaning you get home with dryer hair than when you left.

Over washing also dries your hair out, even with using the correct products, as it doesn't give your hair time to recover it's natural proteins and oils to keep it healthy.

Also, give your hair a break from time to time when it comes to coloring. Let your natural hair color come out so you can get a refresh of what you would naturally look

like before going for the same style for the 20th time. You never know, you might even want to be daring and try something new.
